Nach Entzündung der Flamme nur ein schmaler Musterstreifen an der schwarzen Stola geschafft, den ich in der Planung völlig übersehen hatte. Das war mein erstes Stricken in der Öffentlichkeit: im Prosecco.

After the lightning of the flame I just did one small pattern on the black stole that I completely missed while planning my timetable. It was my first knitting in public: at the Prosecco, a very nice restaurant.

Ein schmaler Musterstreifen und 5,5 Rapporte eines Musters, das ich sehr gern mag, aber sehr breit ist, sind meine Ausbeute an diesem Tag. Und wieder einmal steht am Abend eine Feier an.

One small pattern stripe and 5,5 repeats of a broad pattern, that I've done some months ago and like very much, is all I can present. Time will be short today because of a birthday party invitation.

3. Tag - Biathlon: Einzel Damen      Bronze für Martina Glagow

Beim schwarzen Tuch ist das Soll erreicht: ich bin über die Mitte hinaus und habe das nächste breite Muster zur Hälfte gestrickt. Heute muß ich mit den roten Tuch aufholen, da bin ich schon zwei Tage im Rückstand.

Yesterday I reached schedule level with the black shawl: the center pattern and the half of the next broad pattern is knitted. Today there's more to do: I'm two days back schedule level, I started repeat 4 yesterday late in the evening and got to reach repeat 10 this evening if I want to be in schedule time with the red one too.

4. Tag - Biathlon: Sprint Herren      Gold für Sven Fischer

Die Tagesleistung für die Rose Lace Stole ist für heute erreicht: zwischen dem gelben und dem grünen Faden. Alles darüber hinaus ist ein Aufholen dessen, was ich in den ersten Tagen durch Familienfeiern nicht geschafft habe. So wirklich Stricken in der Öffentlichkeit habe ich mich nur einmal getraut. Am Montag war's leider zu dunkel - das Publikum sehr gemischt und ich zu unsicher, was die Leute sagen würden. Also habe ich es gelassen. Morgen jedoch werde ich das T-Shirt zum Training anziehen. So!

I reached today's limit for the Rose Lace Stole: it's marked from the yellow to the green thread. All rows above are my try to catch up with my loss of scheduled knitting that happened at the first two days while being on birthday parties with the family. I didn't dare knitting in public but one time. It was too dark monday evening - the people around me too mixed and surely not interested in knitting and I didn't know what they would say. So I left my work in the bag. But tomorrow I'll wear the Knitting Olympics T-Shirt for training. I swear!

Oha, da habe ich doch jetzt was nachzuholen.
Das schwarze Tuch liegt voll im Zeitrahmen. Alle nötigen Musterstreifen habe ich zeitlich so gut hinbekommen, daß ich mich an die Aufholjagd beim roten Tuch machen konnte. Das wurde zwar nicht mehr viel, aber Kleinvieh macht auch Mist.

The black shawl is in schedule time. I managed to knit all the pattern stripes and have some spare time left, so I can try to catch up with the red one. Result were only 8 rows - but have them done instead of still to do is much better.

6. Tag - Biathlon: Sprint Damen      Keine Medaille - dafür Ausschluß von Olga Pyleva von den Olympischen Spielen wegen Doping und Sperre für 2 Jahre

Ganz dummer Fehler beim roten Tuch. Ich habe es in die Stammkneipe mitgenommen. Was ich nicht bedacht hatte: dort wird mehr geraucht, als man wirklich wahrnimmt. Das hat mich gestern Abend nicht besonders gestört (obwohl ich absoluter Nichtraucher bin), als ich heute morgen jedoch das Tuch wieder aus der Transporttasche nahm, wurde mir beinahe schlecht von dem Mief. Am liebsten hätte ich es zum Auslüften auf den Balkon gehängt - aber ich habe an dem Tuch ja was aufzuholen. Einzige Möglichkeit: zwar dran weiterstricken, aber das Tuch und somit die Arme möglichst wenig bewegen. Viel habe ich auch nicht geschafft, aber bin trotzdem etwas weiter gekommen.

Did something wrong and stupid with the red shawl. I took it with me to our pub. I didn't thought of one special thing: it's still allowed to smoke in pubs and restaurants in Germany. So being there I didn't realize how many people were smoking their cigarettes (though I'm an absolute Non-Smoker!). But unpacking the shawl this morning I got overwhelmed with the cold cigarette smoke. I thought of putting it on the balkony for some refreshing - but I'm still late with the shawl. In the end I came up with this method: knit the red one, but with less movement as possible. I reached 2/3 of my day's output - but better something done instead of getting more and more behind with my shawl.

Ein schmales Muster am schwarzen Tuch habe ich leider nicht geschafft, da mich andere Verpflichtungen zwangen, das Strickzeug aus der Hand zu legen. Spät am Abend habe ich jedoch zum ausgleich und als Abwechslung noch ein paar Reihen am roten Tuch gestrickt. Nicht wirklich ausreichend viel, aber da ist zumindest heute kein Stillstand.

I got all my work done, except for one small pattern stripe, because there was another duty to fulfill. Late in the evening I managed to knit some rows on the red shawl for a change. It wasn't much but it was no standstill.

8. Tag - Biathlon: Verfolgung Damen / Verfolgung Herren      Gold für Kati Wilhelm, Silber für Martina Glagow / Bronze für Sven Fischer
(und ich konnte das nicht sehen! *heul*)

Nachdem 4 Stunden meine Füße die meiste Bewegung hatten, habe ich den Resttag sitzend und strickend verbracht. Das Fernsehprogramm war nicht so spannend (natürlich laufen die Berichte über die olympischen Entscheidungen), daß es mich irgendwie hätte ablenken können. Ich habe zwar 2 schmale und ein breites Muster am schwarzen Tuch geschafft, eigentlich war aber noch ein zweites sehr breites Muster vorgesehen. Morgen vielleicht.

After 4 hours of movement for my feet I loved to sit down an knit for the rest of the day. The TV programme wasn't that interesting (I'm listening to the broadcasting of the Olympics) to abstract my concentration from the knitting. 2 small and 1 broad patterns stripes is my work for today, though there should be another broad stripe. Maybe I can finish that tomorrow.

9. Tag

Wieder aufgeholt
Ich habe den Tag genutzt, um beim schwarzen Tuch meinen Rückstand wieder aufzuholen. Es ist mir zwar gelungen, dafür falle ich mit dem roten Tuch immer weiter in Rückstand. Eigentlich sollte ich beim roten schon bei der Borte sein, bin aber immer noch beim 9. Rapport. Und wenn ich schon mal im Hintertreffen bin, kann ich auch gleich den Garnverbrauch nachrechnen. Ich möchte nämlich möglichst viel Tuch und möglichst wenig Rest haben. Deshalb denke ich schon an eine Verlängerung um 3 Mustersätze.
Mittlerweile stricke ich schon getapt. Die dünnen Fäden schneiden doch dermaßen tief ein, liegen auch immer an derselben Stelle, die immer eher gereizt reagiert, daß ich meinen Zeigefinger mit Tape dort umklebt habe, wo der Faden läuft.

Back to the schedule
I used sunday morning and early afternoon for excessive knitting on the black shawl. I managed to do the broad pattern stripe, but at the same time losing contact to the schedule of the red one. Due to this schedule I should be working the edge right now, but actually it's the 9th repeat of 11. For I'm that off the schedule I'm thinking of a prolonging of the shawl. There'll be more than the half of the second ball as left overs and it'll be a pity if the shawl is a bit short and I have one fourth of the yarn left. Got to calculate.
In the meantime intensive knitting left some marks. I'm working with very thin threads always lying at the same place around my fingers. When my hands become a bit wet (hot tea, thrilling finals of the olympic broadcasting, ...) it cuts in very deep. So I taped my indexfinger for getting some cloth between the yarn and my skin.

Keine Ahnung, was mich geritten hat - vielleicht der Gedanke, daß am Ende zuwenig Tuch herauskommt und zuviel Restgarn übrig bleibt. Es wäre schade um die Zeit, die drinsteckt, wenn ich doch wieder die Hälfte auflöse, um eine Verlängerung anzubringen. Deshalb habe ich gewissenhaft gerechnet und mich entschieden jetzt die Rose Lace Stole (das rote Tuch) um 3 Musterrapporte in der Mitte (insgesamt 132 Reihen) zu verlängern.
Da die Olympischen Spiele leider nicht mitverlängert werden, habe ich meine Verlängerung in Maschenzahlen ausgerechnet und damit den Punkt am verlängerten Tuch festgestellt, der dem Ende des Tuches in der normalen Version entspräche: Das Muster in der Mitte wird von 11 auf 14 Rapporte verlängert, die Borte dadurch auf beiden Seiten um 11 Rapporte - Endpunkt wäre hier der 101. Rapport der Borte an der ersten Längsseite. Nicht, daß ich das noch schaffen könnte, aber dann werde ich mit dem Tuch sicher zufrieden sein: schön lang und kuschelig weich.

Don't know what got me these days - perhaps the thought of being short with the shawl and having too much left overs. So before I waste my time for finishing now and ripping all the border again later to work some more and have a longer shawl, I just decided to prolong it: now the middel section would be done with 14 repeats instead of 11 (132 rows more).
For the Olympics are terminated to the next sunday and no prolongation would ever come to pass, I did some calculation in stitches. I would have finished the shawl with 11 repeats in the middle section when I knitted 14 repeats in the middle section and 101 repeats of the border. Not that I could reach that mark, but I will be much more comfortable to think of a shawl that would suit my demands (and use most of the yarn). See tomorrows statistics adjusted to the new goal.

11. Tag - Biathlon: Staffel Herren      Gold für Deutschland: Ricco Groß / Michael Rösch / Sven Fischer / Michael Greis

Gestern habe ich endlich das Mittelteil des schwarzen Tuches beendet und schon einmal mit der Borte begonnen. Ich konnte es einfach nicht abwarten. Heute habe ich nicht so wirklich viel gestrickt. Etwa anderthalb Stunden an der Borte für das schwarze Tuch. Es fiel mir schwer, mich an die Maschenfolge zu erinnern, obwohl ich die ja schon einmal gestrickt habe. Nach den ersten vier Rapporten ging es jedoch ganz gut voran.
Ich hoffe beim Spannen das Tuch noch etwas in die Breite ziehen zu können. Momentan ist es noch nicht gespannt 2m lang und 35 cm breit - ideal für einen Schal, ungünstig für ein Schultertuch.

Yesterday the middle section with the patchwork stripe pattern was finished after 217 minutes of knitting this day. I couldn't resist starting the border, but haven't really done much today. Spend about one and a half hour for the egde pattern. Though I did it once for another shawl, I couldn't remember the pattern, so I made some mistakes and had to go back several times several rows to correct them. But now I memorized the pattern again (for a short time).
I hope to get a good shape to the shawl while blocking. At the moment it is unblocked and about 79 inches long and 14 inches wide - ideal for a scarf, bad for a shawl.

Ich konnte es mir nicht verkneifen, in diesem schwarzen Tuch einen ganz besonderen Hinweis auf die Knitting Olympics einzubauen. Auf den letzten 16 Reihen des letzten schmalen Musters habe ich mir die Freiheit genommen, die olympischen Ringe einzustricken. Jetzt ist dieses Tuch ein Unikat.

I couldn't resist giving the shawl a special note. I'd love to give a hint for this shawl was one of my entries at the Knitting Olympics. So at the last 16 rows of the last small stripe pattern, I decided to knit the Olympic Rings. Now this shawl is unique.

12. Tag

Eigentlich wollte ich an der Borte des schwarzen Tuches stricken. Eigentlich.....
Ein sich dem Ende zuneigendes rotes Knäul jedoch spornt mich an, möglichst viel zu stricken, bis ich es aufgebraucht habe. Da nach vier Stunden das Ende wohl etwas näher gekommen, aber noch lange nicht erreicht war, habe ich für diesen Tag aufgegeben. Immerhin ist das rote Tuch um beinahe zwei Rapporte gewachsen.
Am Schwarzen wollte ich gestern abend eigentlich schon noch stricken, aber in der verrauchten Stammkneipe habe ich es nur kurz zum Zeigen ausgepackt. Ich muß mich bei der Borte auch zu sehr konzentrieren, da kann ich nicht nebenher noch Gespräche führen.

It was planned to knit on the edge of the black shawl. Planned.....
The first ball of the red yarn seems to get near the end and that encuraged me to knit as much and as quick as possible without making mistakes until it's used up. After four hours of knitting I got near to the end, but there's still a lot to do. So I stopped for this day with the red one having done nearly two repeats (that is 88 rows).
In the evening I planned to go on with the black shawl, but I spend the hours with friends in our local pub, showing the black shawl, but did no knitting because I've got to concentrate a lot on the edge pattern. It would be no good in combination with talking.

I was told that not only one of my teammates had a look at the black shawl saturday afternoon after the training, but also the male trainer, even from a distance. He recognized it as a shawl (should be no problem) but was amazed of the work and refused to believe, it was handmade, until our female trainer told him that there's still the needle in the shawl. I'm very anxious for his commentary on the shawl on sunday. *biggrin*

13. Tag - Biathlon: Staffel Damen      Silber für Deutschland: Martina Glagow / Andrea Henkel / Katrin Apel / Kati Wilhelm

Das Wetter ist komisch: feinster Schnee und gleichzeitig Sonnenschein, bestes Regenbogenwetter (wenn es regnen und nicht schneien würde), dann mal wieder nur ein bedeckter dunkler Himmel. Da reicht es nicht, sich ans Fenster zu setzen.
Im Moment tut es mir leid, daß ich am roten Tuch gestern noch so lange gestrickt habe. Jetzt wo ich bemerke, daß auf keinen Fall beide Tücher fertig werden und das schwarze einen so enormen Vorsprung hat, fürchte ich einen Zeitmangel und damit verbunden keine von zwei Fertigstellungen. Das heißt: Dran bleiben heute - viel stricken, auch wenn mich die Strickunlust ganz heftig erwischt. Ich würde mich viel lieber an's Spinnrad setzen. Aber dann hatte doch der allgemeine Druck und mein Ego was dagegen, nur für meine persönliche Unlust an einem Projekt weiterzustricken den Erfolg eines fertigen Stückes so leichtfertig auf's Spiel zu setzen.
Ich mußte mich auch wieder in die Anleitung einlesen und mich erinnern, warum wann was wie gestrickt werden soll. Ich habe die Borte zweimal neu angefangen, bis endlich alles richtig war. So richtig viel habe ich heute nicht geschafft, nur 21 Rapporte.

Funny weather today: finest snow with sunshine, best weather for a rainbow (if it is rain instead of snow), changing with lots and lots of clouds making the day very dark. It doesn't help sitting down near the window for best light while knitting.
At the moment I'm not happy with me spending that much time on the red shawl yesterday. Now I realize how little time is left to finish just one of two, never both of them, and the black one is so much more near to be finished in time, I'd spended my time on the black shawl. Though there was a very very loud shout from my spinning wheel "Why do you ignore me?" I decided to stay on the knitting. It would be just another proof of being unsteady if I'd drop my knitting and go and sit down at the wheel just for my fun. NO! I was my Ego and all the other people participating that kept me from spending my time with what I like and not with what must be done.
It was my fault, making mistakes into the border, what causes ripping it off the shawl two times. Though I'd done this border once, I had to read the instruction carefully once again. You skip some methods of knitting very easily if you work on more than four UFOs at the same time. Today I didn't got much done, just 21 repeats of the border.

Heute war Strickgroßkampftag: von morgens 8:30 Uhr bis abends 19:30 Uhr. Reale Strickzeit (ja, ich habe eine Stopuhr bemüht von "Nadeln aufnehmen" bis "Nadeln loslassen") waren 6 Stunden und 13 Minuten. In dieser Zeit sind 42 normale Rapporte und 2x5 Rapporte für die Ecken mit verkürzten Reihen entstanden. Es sind zwar weniger Maschen in den Ecken, man muß aber immer ein Auge auf der Anleitung haben - das verzögert die Strickgeschwindigkeit enorm. Reale Strickzeit heißt auch, ich habe jede kleine Pause abgezogen: einen großen Schluck Tee nehmen, mal was nachmessen, Muster in der Anleitung nachschauen, Maschen neu aufnehmen. Am heutigen Tage hatte ich schon eine ausreichende Olympia-Sättigung. Die wenigen Wettkämpfe der letzten Tage waren nicht so spannend, irgendwelche Berichte wurden wiederholt (die ich dann zum x-ten Mal gesehen hätte). Meine Alternative: ein schön langes Hörspiel. Es hat den Vorteil, daß man nicht durch irgendwelche Bilder vom Stricken abgelenkt wird.

It was my knitting day today. I started at 8:30 AM and stopped 7:30 PM. My real knitting time (yes, I'm using a stop watch and stopped time from "getting up the needles" to "next break") was 6 hours and 13 minutes. During this time 42 normal repeats and 2x5 repeats with shorter rows for the corners were knitted. Though there're less stitches to do, you've got to have one eye on the knitting and the other at the pattern - this takes a lot of time. Real knitting time does also mean that every little break the watch was stopped: taking a large gulp of tea, measuring something, have a close look on the pattern, take up new stitches.
This day I had some Olympics-Overreaction. There were less competitions the last days and they weren't really interesting for me, some were broadcasted a second, third, even fourth time. Boring! My alternative was a long radio play, listen more than 8 hours to one theme. The advantage is, you weren't disturbed by pictures from your knitting.

15. Tag - Biathlon: Massenstart Herren / Massenstart Damen

Irgendwie stehe ich heute auf dem Kriegsfuß mit der Stopuhr! Entweder ich vergesse sie zu starten oder zu stoppen. Mein Vorteil: ich weiß, wie viele Rapporte noch zu machen sind und kann meine reale Strickzeit hochrechnen. Ich war schon recht weit, so kurz vor dem Ende, als ich mich dann doch entschlossen habe das Tuch zu Gunsten eines hoffentlich erholsamen Schlafes aus den Händen zu legen und am nächsten Morgen weiterzumachen. Ehrlich gesagt, ich habe es ungern getan - so kurz vor dem Ziel.

I'm not able to use the stop watch any more. It isn't lost, nor it's broken - I simply forget to start it, or to stop it. But I have written down the times I needed for the panels the first time, so I can make up the knitting time. I was very near to the end (see picture), could have it done this night if I'd knitted until 3:00 or 4:00 AM, but I chose to get some sleep, because I'd got to be fresh the next day for the tournament. But I knew, I'd pick the knitting up as early the next morning as possible.

16. Tag - Abschlußfeier

Ehrgeiz kann besser wirken als ein Wecker. Er trieb mich um halb sieben (an einem Sonntag!!) aus dem Bett und an die Stricknadeln. Die letzten normalen Rapporte habe ich noch zu Hause gestrickt, dann mußten wir uns auf den Weg machen. Zum Glück war ich nur Mitfahrer auf der Rückbank und konnte ungestört stricken, die Anleitung auf meine Knie gestellt und an die Rückenlehne des Fahrersitzes gelehnt. Nur eine beinahe nebensächliche Frage nach der Uhrzeit (9:18 Uhr) und ein stiller innerlicher Jubel kündete von der Fertigstellung des schwarzen Tuches. Alles andere hätte die Fahrerin zu sehr irritiert.
Der Rest des Tages war zwar anstrengend, aber mit dieser Droge "Fertigstellung" (noch dazu eine legale Droge) ließ sich wunderbar jede andere Leistung vollbringen: ein Formationstanzturnier auf dem wir unsere Zielsetzung voll erreicht haben. Gleich zwei Erfolge an einem Tag - da kann es einem Menschen nur gut gehen. *schweb*
Auch wenn einige aus der Mannschaft mich seltsam angesehen haben, die Erklärungen zum Tuch fielen zwar kurz aus, der hinterlassene Eindruck war dafür aber um so stärker (was man aus den Gesichtern ablesen konnte).

Ambition is the best alarm clock. I was up from bed at 6:30 AM (on a sunday morning!!) and headed directly to my knitting. I did the last normal repeats at home, them we started our journey to Oberhausen (just one and a half hour to go). I was a silent knitting passenger in the drivers back, propped the pattern against the drivers seat and on my knees. Just a simple question for the time (9:18 AM) and a silent inner "Hooray" were the only signs whem I finished the black stole. More than this would have disturbed the driver.
The rest of the day was exhausting, but with this drug of "Finished!" (what a wonderful legal drug) I could do all other things with no effort: a dancing competition where we managed to get our goal. Just two times success at one day - it's got to be a fine day for everybody. *hover*
Though some of my team mates looked irritated, I didn't had to explain much about the Knitting Olympics, I just had to look in their faces to see how much impressed their were.

Nachlese

Nach Rosenmontag und einem Tag totaler Entspannung (endlich wieder an's Spinnrad setzen!) habe ich den Blog auf den neuesten Stand gebracht. Die letzten 3 Tage waren geschludert. Ich hatte aber auch wirklich keine Lust, mich an den Rechner zu setzen, ich wollte feiern: ein erfolgreiches Tanzturnier, ein beendetes Tuch, Rosenmontag.

Und dann habe ich die Goldmedaille bei Yarnharlot entdeckt. Da mußte ich natürlich alles andere abbrechen und hier Klar Schiff machen.



Monday before Lent and one day of total relaxation (causing one day of spinning) had to be gone until I'd felt like getting up with the blog. I skipped the entries of the last 3 days, but there was no tiny bit of interest for writing something more on the blog, I wanted do join the party: a successful dancing tournament, one shawl finished, monday before Lent.

And then I saw the gold medal at Yarn Harlot. Therefore I skipped all other things to sit down and put the medal into my blog. So here we are.....
